as much as who you beat.

Every win is worth 2 base points, plus a strength bonus equal to your opponent's own rating at the time — and that bonus updates every week as their rating changes. Beat a team that turns out to be good, and your win gets more valuable after the fact.

All 272 games of the 2026 regular season are pre-loaded — just pick a week, pick the matchup, and enter the final score. Week 1 doesn't start everyone at zero: each team's rating is seeded from their final 2025 rating (computed with this exact formula on the real 2025 season), scaled by the carryover % and your own offseason adjustment, both editable in Admin. Ratings recompute from scratch each week using every opponent's rating as of the previous week, with a recency damping factor to stop the numbers from compounding out of control over a full season — without it, ratings blow up into the billions by Week 18. Margin of victory doesn't affect the rating itself — only who won — but scores are stored so the scoreboard can show real results. Spread formula: half the gap between the two teams' ranks, with the home team getting a flat home-field bonus baked in, both tunable in Admin. This is a view toggle, not real login security — anyone with the link and the PIN can reach Admin mode.

How to Bet
Every game starts with $5 already on the favorite (or the home team if it's a true pick 'em) — that covers the minimum automatically, but adjust it to match your own confidence.
Use the − and + buttons next to each team to change your bet in $5 steps, from $5 up to $40 per team.
Every player gets a fresh $200 to bet each week, and the full $200 has to be allocated across that week's games.
If your Bank (season winnings) allows it, you can press up to $200 more of it into that week's bets — a $400 weekly maximum.
Once a game's real kickoff time passes, its bet locks and can't be changed.
Taking a bet down to $0 automatically flips it to the other team at $5 — every game always has money on exactly one side.

Rating Settings — admin-only, one shared number for everyone (these drive the published Rankings)
How much of an opponent's rating counts toward your strength bonus. Without damping, ratings compound out of control over a full season — 10% keeps numbers sane while still rewarding wins over good teams. Lower = flatter, higher = more volatile.
How much of each team's final 2025 rating counts as their Week 1 2026 starting point. 0% = everyone starts at zero (Week 1 spreads become flat home-field-only). 100% = full carryover.
Pick Lock Schedule — admin-only, applies to every player and SOS equally
A whole week's bets lock at once, rather than game by game — otherwise a player could see how an early game (like Thursday night) went, or how SOS bet on it, before finishing the rest of their own week. Defaults reflect the earliest a game can kick off (Wednesday) and the latest (Monday Night Football).
Hour is 0-23, Eastern Time (0 = midnight).
A reminder marker for the admin — the point by which that week's scores should be fully entered.
